Chris
Chandler is a leading
expert on the public sector’s engagement with the creative
industries. He has worked with a wide range of public, private
and voluntary sector cultural organisations on the development
of strategy, business planning and operational delivery. Most
recently before joining Northern Alliance in 2006 he worked
at the UK Film Council from its inception in 2000. He led
the Film Council’s work on the creation of strategies
for film in the UK’s nations and regions, film heritage,
film education and audience development. He played the leading
role in the establishment of the 9 English Regional Screen
Agencies and helped establish and manage partnerships between
the UK Film Council and private and public sector organisations
such as the one behind First Light Movies (www.firstlightmovies.com)
Having started his working life as a stage manager
and lighting designer in the theatre, Chris worked in local
authority arts management and for the BFI before joining the
Film Council. He has wide experience of developing and managing
public strategy for the cultural industries at a local, national
